My Need for Order Satisfied

I doodle on everything and everywhere, my sketchbook is a mess and I wish I could have my illustrations organized so I can find them when I want them. I tried cutting them and pasting them in different files but it was still a disaster until… I ran across this genius idea.

I can now draw to my hearts content and when I like something I trace over it on tracing paper where I can even make little pages of one subject if I want. Then I can scan in and  easily  manipulate them in photoshop or illustrator.

such a small idea. such a big impact.

This really is a great idea. You know I also have a need for order and I am very impressed with how starting to collect my thoughts on the water series in place has changed things and is helping me move forward with my ideas. The sketchbook I am using has numbered pages and a blank Table of Contents in the front so I can jot down what page specific things are on. While the sketchbook is not so big and complicated that I couldn’t just flip through pages rather quickly to find things, there IS something appealing to my inherent need to organize in having that table at the front. 🙂

On the other hand, I do like having a sketchbook or two where I don’t have to worry about themes or self-imposed purpose. If one can just pick up whatever is at hand, one is more likely to actually sketch something when the urge arises. And so, this newfound method of yours maintains that freedom while giving you a way to isolate and organize sketches elsewhere. Way to go!

Funny, I thought you would have doubted that I needed order since I so rarely display that I have any! I have tried making an index but that requires me to log something and I can’t seem to pull that off. Little finishing details are not my strong point. I’m looking forward to seeing the water series and hearing how you are collecting your thoughts for it..
